BSP announces Apple Pay set to launch in the Philippines anytime

BSP Deputy Governor announces Apple Pay launch in the Philippines, following Google Pay entry.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) says Apple Pay can enter the Philippine market anytime. The payment service is not classified as an operator of payment system (OPS).

BSP Deputy Governor Mamerto E. Tangonan noted that the central bank recognizes that Apple Pay is not an OPS. He said Google Pay has launched and Apple Pay can launch whenever they choose.

The BSP made the same determination in mid-2025 for both Apple Pay and Google Pay. Google Pay officially entered the Philippines in November through Google Wallet.

The service allows users to link debit and credit cards. Notably, Tangonan said the BSP has not been informed of any launch timeline from Apple.
