Duolingo Chess PvP mode now available on Android

The Duolingo Chess Player-vs-Player (PvP) mode is now available on Android, following its initial release on iOS late last year. The update broadens access to the course for mobile-first markets, including the Philippines and Indonesia.

The Chess course follows Duolingo’s puzzle-based approach, letting beginners practice moves before progressing to mini games and full matches. The PvP mode pairs players against opponents of similar skill levels, keeping competitive matches manageable for those still learning the game.

More features are on the way, including play-with-friends options, game review tools, and advanced chess lessons,. There’s also a web version also currently in development.

The course is free and available in multiple languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese. It joins math and music as part of Duolingo’s growing lineup of gamified non-language courses.

Communication graduate, closet cynic, and kid at heart. Duane is a rare person to find, quite literally. He often takes to himself but has proven his mettle in tech media with his quick wits. Well, the portfolio of scriptwriting, web content, and public relations help too, we suppose. As a homebody, he often spends his time on the streaming platform Twitch or ‘farming’ gaming clips with friends. He is also an avid fan of round glasses and anything relative to blueberries.
