The Mentra Live smart glasses are now official, running on their own open-source operating system called MentraOS. This follows Mentra providing a software development kit to developers from early 2025.
Apps are available through the MiniApp Store, which Mentra claims is the first dedicated app store for smart glasses. Both iOS and Android users can access it through the Mentra app.
Early apps range from practical to playful. One app saves handwritten notes seen through the glasses. Another called Chess Cheater analyzes a chessboard using AI and suggests moves.
The Mentra Live uses a Mediatek MTK8766 processor with a 12-megapixel front camera that comes with a 119-degree field of view. The camera supports livestreaming to YouTube, Twitch, X, and Instagram.
The frame includes three microphones and stereo speakers for music and calls through WhatsApp and FaceTime. It supports a battery life reaching over 12 hours per charge.
Plus, it has an included 2,200mAh charging case providing over 50 additional hours. The Mentra Live costs $299 or roughly P18,000.
The first batch is limited to 1,000 pairs. Shipping begins February 15 for the first batch and February 28 for the second batch.
