Micron has officially announced it will shut down the Crucial brand and exit the consumer memory business, aiming to fully focus on supplying AI data centers. This means no new Crucial RAM or SSDs will hit the market after February 2026.
The company states the move is to better support the surging demand from the AI sector. In short, they’re chasing the bigger money in data centers, a trend we’re seeing across the tech industry. For us here, this raises questions about future options and pricing for PC builders and upgraders.
What this means for PH consumers
Once existing stocks run out, that’s it. Micron promises to continue warranty support for existing Crucial products, but no new units will be produced. For those planning builds or looking for reliable, often well-priced RAM and storage, one major player is leaving the table.
This comes at a time when memory prices are already volatile. With other manufacturers also prioritizing AI, consumer-grade RAM and SSD prices could feel more pressure.
What’s your take? Do you think this move will make building or upgrading a PC more expensive here in the Philippines?
