President Ferdinand (Bongbong) Marcos Jr. approved the Philippines’ first National Digital Connectivity Plan (NDCP). This was announced by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
The NDCP is a long-term framework aimed at accelerating broadband rollout. It seeks to lower internet costs and close the digital divide.
Presidential Communications Office Secretary Dave Gomez said the plan envisions a Digitally Connected Philippines. The goal is connectivity that is meaningful, inclusive, and transformative.
The framework anchors on universal access, affordability, higher speeds, and secure digital services. Gomez stated the President acknowledged the country lags behind ASEAN neighbors.
Marcos is confident advances in technology will help narrow gaps in speed, coverage, and cost. The DICT said the plan helps the Philippines catch up with regional peers.
The NDCP has four pillars: regulatory reform, universal access, increased infrastructure investment through public-private partnerships, and building resilient digital infrastructure. For reference, the plan was developed through consultations that began in early 2024.
