Apple has tapped Google’s Gemini to power the next version of Siri in a multi-year deal. The agreement puts Gemini at the center of Apple’s ecosystem for core AI features.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT will stay on board only for advanced, opt-in queries from users. With this move, Gemini will reach Apple’s more than 2 billion active devices globally.
The partnership follows Google’s earlier deal with Samsung for Galaxy AI integration. Apple has struggled to roll out its own generative AI tools in recent years.
By adopting Gemini, Apple hopes to speed up development and make Siri more useful. Apple says privacy remains a priority with Apple Intelligence running on the device.
Processing also happens through its Private Cloud Compute system for sensitive data. For Google, the deal is both strategic and financial in nature.
Alphabet’s (Google’s parent company) market value recently passed 4 trillion dollars boosted by AI investor confidence. The partnership with Apple further cements Gemini’s role as a leading AI platform.
