Netflix removes casting feature from mobile devices
Netflix has removed casting from mobile devices. This affects the feature that lets phones cast to Chromecast and Google TV devices.

The change effectively forces users to rely on the Netflix app and a smart TV’s remote instead. Given this, the cast icon has been disabled on the Netflix mobile app for the newer Chromecast and Google TV models.
This update was first reported by Android Authority, with the change being applied mid-November. This has since been confirmed via Netflix’s help page, with no announcement going out to subscribers.
Netflix Support said that this change was to ‘enhance’ a subscriber’s experience with no further explanations. The change follows Netflix’s decision to drop AirPlay support back in 2019.
Back then, this only affected Apple devices. However, this was a sign that the platform intended to control viewing through TV and streaming box interfaces instead of mobile playback.
Still, older Chromecast models can still cast without needing a remote. This is the same with other smart TVs supporting built-in casting.
